Speckle Tracking MasterClass Course

Introduction

Speckle Tracking Echocardiography (STE) is a rapidly growing field in echocardiography allowing us to study the “deformation” of the myocardium. Initially used as a research tool, many laboratories now include STE within their routine imaging protocols.  Clearly, STE has changed the way we determine myocardial function and will certainly impact clinical decision making even more in the future.

Let Dr. Thomas Binder and leading experts from around the world bring you through the most practical and comprehensive STE course available today. This course is designed to close the gap between what science has taught us about Speckle Tracking Echocardiography and what the clinician needs to know in order to apply this method in daily clinical practice.

Part 1 - Compendium

Speckle Tracking Compendium is a systematic video tutorial covering the essentials of Speckle Tracking Echocardiography (Deformation Imaging) and how it can be used to study left heart function. The course provides an:

  • Introduction explaining the relevance of Speckle Tracking Echocardiography.
  • Critical view of ejection fraction that demonstrates the need for other techniques to quantify left ventricular function.
  • Explanation of what “deformation” is and how Speckle Tracking is able to measure “strain”.
  • Demonstration of how to record images and perform a basic Speckle Tracking analysis (bullseye display).
  • Overview of the most important clinical applications of Speckle Tracking, what we know from the literature, and how it can be used in clinical decision making.

Part 2 - Advanced

Speckle Tracking Advanced is an in depth video course on Speckle Tracking Echocardiography which builds on what was learned in the Compendium. In contrast to the compendium, this course features even more case examples, demonstrations and expert statements from top experts in the field. Here we include advanced topics such as:

  • How to perform an advanced Speckle Tracking study.
  • A more detailed look at Myocardial Mechanics.
  • A comprehensive analysis of which factors influence strain.
  • The problem of vendor differences.
  • The possible uses of both radial and circumferential strain and the role that strain rate plays.
  • A guide to what information is hidden in the strain curves.
  • Clinical scenarios where STE can make a difference.
  • The assessment of right heart function and the left atrium using Speckle Tracking.
