Our courses

Bone Fracture FocusClass

In this course, we'll cover the indications and contraindications of fracture sonography. We'll discuss the optimal examination procedure and documentation of your findings. We'll look at how artifacts and normal findings appear. We'll assess fractures of:

• Shoulder: proximal humerus, clavicle, AC and SC joint

• Elbow

• Wrist & Fingers

• Thigh: hip, femoral shaft and knee

• Lower leg: tibia, fibula, ankle and foot

• Thorax: rib and sternal

Cardiac Filling MasterClass

This course is specially designed for cardiologists, internists, intensivists, echocardiographers and residents in training who particularly need to understand the filling conditions of the heart but do have some understanding of the basic modalities of echocardiography.

In great detail, three individual topics about cardiac filling will be covered: pericardial disease, restrictive cardiomyopathy, and diastolic dysfunction.

MSK BachelorClass 2023

Who Should Attend?

Both primary healthcare professionals such as physical therapists, chiropractors, osteopaths, and general physicians, as well as secondary healthcare professionals such as radiologists, orthopedic surgeons, physician assistants, rheumatologists and anyone interested in improving their diagnostic capabilities and insight in treating dysfunctions of the musculoskeletal system.

After completion of this online course, the professional is capable of using MSK ultrasound in clinical practice in a qualitative and critical way. The professional learns how to scan anatomical structures of the upper- and lower extremity. The core of this course is based on an intensive review of anatomy of specific regions, pathophysiology of common conditions within these regions and evidence-based reviews of the use of MSK US in the assessment of the locomotor system."

Course structure:

• Module 1 - Introduction to MSK Ultrasound

• Module 2 - Shoulder

• Module 3 - Elbow

• Module 4 - Wrist

• Module 5 - Hip

• Module 6 - Knee

• Module 7 - Ankle

Carotid Ultrasound MasterClass

The Carotid Ultrasound Masterclass is a video-based online teaching course (10 hours) that covers the entire spectrum of carotid and vertebral artery ultrasound. The target groups are; vascular sonographers, internists, cardiologists, radiologists, angiologists, neurologists, vascular surgeons, and all health care professionals involved in the diagnosis of cerebrovascular disease.

In over 10 hours (6 chapters and 23  lectures) this course covers topics such as fundamentals of imaging and scanning, the anatomy of the extracranial vessels, differentiating the external from the internal carotid artery, risk assessment for coronary artery disease and stroke, quantification of intima media thickness and stenosis and other diseases of the carotid and vertebral arteries (i.e. dissection, subclavian steal syndrome, vertebral artery stenosis, and hypoplasia). The course will allow trainees to diagnose pathologies and understand the consequences of their findings. They will be able to decide when alternative imaging modalities such as MRI, CT and digital subtraction angiography are necessary and which therapeutic options we have. A specific chapter is dedicated to therapy (best medical therapy, endarterectomy, and stenting). Here the trainees will learn: What “best medical therapy is, which role lipid-lowering therapy and platelet inhibitors play, how endarterectomy and stenting are performed, and what the advantages and complications of these techniques are. The course is conducted by experts in the field of vascular sonography, angiology, cardiology, radiology, and vascular surgery and includes imaging demonstrations, cases, animations, operative videos, and documentaries on atherosclerosis and stroke.

Neuromuscular Ultrasound Essentials

Welcome to the exciting world of neuromuscular ultrasound! In this course, presented by key-opinion-leader Nens van Alfen, you will learn all the necessary basics of nerve ultrasound of the upper and lower extremity through 59 short videos. With interactive lessons, hands-on simulations, and real-life case studies, this course provides a comprehensive and engaging learning experience in the field of nerve ultrasound.

Lung

Lung Ultrasound MasterClass

Although lung ultrasound has been used for quite some time, especially in the emergency setting (almost every clinician has already seen a pleural effusion in ultrasound, and ultrasound has also been used in diagnosing a pneumothorax), we hardly ever used it for diagnosing diseases of the lung itself. COVID-19 changed this approach: with highly contagious patients lying intubated on the ICU, CT often was not an option - bedside ultrasound is way more safe, portable, and just as reliable in the right hands.

We start this course with the anatomical and physiologic backgrounds of the chest and lungs, and compare chest radiographs, CT images and ultrasound loops. Although we mostly look at artifacts, you will be amazed at how many diseases you can find and how easily you can follow up your patients with just an ultrasound probe.

There are several lung pathologies we discuss in this MasterClass - we already mentioned pneumothorax and pleural effusion, but did you know you can see pneumonia and pulmonary edema in ultrasound? Diffuse parenchymal lung diseases play an important role as well, and you will also learn about consolidations. A whole chapter deals with the co-dependence between the heart and the lungs, both in otherwise healthy patients and in the special context of COVID-19.

The last chapter is something a little different: here you will learn about invasive procedures, such as thoracentesis and thoracic biopsies, from two pulmonologists who have performed hundreds if not thousands of them in their patients. They discuss how to see and guide your needle with ultrasound, how that impacts patient safety and procedural success, and how you can train this on a self-built phantom at home.

After graduating from this Lung ultrasound MasterClass, you will have no problem when you can't move your patient to radiology and bedside chest radiography is not available because you know - the answer to your questions is just a transducer away.

Ultrasound Guided Regional Anaesthesia

Our Ultrasound-Guided Regional Anaesthesia course equips you with the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to perform regional anaesthesia in your daily practice confidently. The introductory chapter provides a foundational understanding of the history of anesthesia and ultrasound-guided regional anaesthesia, focusing on its use in postoperative pain management. An entire chapter is dedicated to essential topics, such as machine settings, and anatomical variability. In addition, the course covers various cannula approaches, with in-depth coverage and live-scanning demonstrations of in-plane and out-of-plane techniques, alongside practical tips by experienced experts in the field. Participants will learn upper- and lower-extremity nerve blocks and the TAP-Block and get familiar with the most common local anesthetics. The course includes live scanning demonstrations on models, illustrations, real-life patient cases, and quiz questions to reinforce learning. Upon course completion, participants will have comprehensive knowledge to perform highly effective clinical nerve blocks.

MSK US Foot and Ankle BachelorClass

The Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Foot & Ankle BachelorClass is an in-depth focussed teaching program where you will learn all the necessary basics of musculoskeletal ultrasound of the foot and ankle joint through over 90 short-videos and micro-learning moments to apply this knowledge in your daily practice.
