In addition to online teaching materials, there are a couple of great books. Every one of them has its strengths. These are our favorite books. Please let us know if you have any other suggestions:
This is one of the standard references in echocardiography. The DVD that comes with the book complements the topics covered in the book very well. We would recommend this book for those of you who want more detail in order to “dive a little deeper”. This book is a true gem. We agree with the Amazon reviewer who put it that way “This is a great book. The text is well written, the pictures are crisp and clear for ultrasound images, and the DVD included shows a lot of the images in realtime, making it much easier to study”.
This book is well written and organized. Together with Feigenbaum’s Echocardiography, this is probably the most well-known book in echocardiography. It has been critizised for the fact that it misses certain chapters. However, overall this book is a truly valuable resource.
This is a great resource for anyone who will be taking an echocardiography exam. It helps you to understand echocardiography in a clinical context. Multiple-choice questions reinforce your knowledge. It is supposed to accompany the book Practice of Clinical Echocardiography. However, the Review Guide has received much more enthusiastic reviews in many online forums than its bigger brother. We think this might be due to its strong focus on applied echocardiography. In summary: we really like this book!
You are a rookie to echocardiography, you are scared by the size and costs of standard echo textbooks. Well then this book might be for you. It fits into the pocket of your coat and has all the reference values a beginner needs. It explains the basics in a straight forward manner and the cost-performance ratio is awesome. Some of us started out using this book and were not disappointed.
